We finally have BOTH seasonal and H1N1 Influenza Vaccine available. We are STRONGLY recommending BOTH to our patients, especially patients with any underlying cardiac or respiratory health issues. The vaccinations are available to ALL of our patients over the age of 19.
While we can do flu shots on a drop-in basis, we’d prefer that you call the office to schedule so we can plan. Flu shots do NOT require an office visit, and on most insurance plans do NOT have a co-pay.

We have received our initial allotment of 300 doses of the H1N1 Influenza vaccine from NY State. Because of the limited supply, initially we will be vaccinating:
- pregnant women
- persons who live with or provide care for infants aged <6 months (e.g., parents, siblings, and daycare providers)
- health-care and emergency medical services personnel
- persons aged 25–64 years who have medical conditions that put them at higher risk for influenza-related complications
We’ve seen a small number of people who have tested positive for Influenza A, although we do NOT know if they had the H1N1 strain. We’re encouraging our patients who fall under any of the categories above to call the office and arrange a time to come in to get vaccinated.

This year there will be TWO SEPARATE influenza vaccines, the “regular” flu vaccine, and the “Swine Flu” H1N1 vaccine. Because the H1N1 strain of influenza is very different from previous strains of the flu, it looks like the vaccine will require two shots, about a month apart, to be effective. This means a total of THREE shots this year to be protected from the flu.

President Obama and Congress are pushing very hard to pass their view of “Healthcare Reform” in the form of HR-3200. We’re given bits and pieces in short sound bites from both sides of the debate, with very few real details as to what the plan will do to the delivery of medical care in our country. What’s even more alarming is that when asked specific questions, it’s obvious that our President and our elected officials either haven’t read the legislation they’re promoting, or are lying to us. It was approved in July, 2006 by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Some of the advantages of Implanon are:

- Discreet - Most women can’t see IMPLANON® after insertion.
- Long-acting – One IMPLANON® provides up to 3 full years of contraceptive protection.

There has been a lot in the news the last few days about a potential pandemic of Influenza A type H1N1 – otherwise known as “Swine Flu”. As of 11:00 AM today, the CDC reported a total of 161 cases of Swine Flu in the United States, with 50 of those cases in New York.
We’ve had a number of patients call us, afraid that they might have contracted Influenza A. The hospital Emergency Department, as well as local Urgent Care Centers have been overwhelmed with people requesting tests for Influenza, so starting Monday, May 4th, we will be testing for Influenza in our in-house lab.
